Klettsvík is a beautiful cliff-enclosed bay in the Westmann Islands. It became famous in 1999 when the giant killer whale, Keiko, was transported from its pool in the United States to a football-field size pen in Klettsvík Bay. Keiko became well known when he starred in the movie Free Willy.
The picturesque area of the bay is sheltered by three mountains: Heimaklettur, Miðklettur and Ystiklettur. These three mountains are home to puffins and other seabirds which can usually be seen on the water in Klettsvík. It is a popular gathering place for people in small boats to witness the marine life and the beautiful cave with its special colours. The newest residents will now be two beluga whales coming from China.
